Shelton approves reimbursing parents for pay-to-play costs

Shelton quarterback Michael Kinik throws a pass during a football scrimmage at Hamden High School, Hamden on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022.Pete Paguaga / Hearst Connecticut file photoSHELTON — Shelton High athletes will not have to pay to play this school year.The Board of Aldermen, at its meeting Thursday, approved $250,000 to reimburse parents who are paying a fee for their children to participate in athletics during the 2022-23 school year. The money is coming from American Rescue Plan funds. According to Superintendent Ken Saranich, parents would still have to pay the necessary fees to participate in athletics but would receive a receipt from the Board of Education that would then be presented to the city for reimbursement.
